Senior Actuarial Analyst

In this role, you will work independently, on team-based projects within the department, and as part of cross-functional teams. A successful candidate will have at least 2 years of progressive experience in the life insurance industry with a focus on insurance product financial models. Up to 50% of the role will entail work in MG-ALFA/Integrate developing, improving, and running models on in-force blocks of business, product pricing, and profitability.  As an Actuarial Services team member, you will be responsible for:

 

  • Modeling block performance and testing changes to assumptions and/or design
  • Developing pricing models for in-force business.
  • Completing new business and inforce modeling for corporate financial projections
  • Cash flow testing including both asset and liability projections
  • Periodic management reporting and administration
  • Peer review of other department members’ work product

This position will also support other functional areas to implement changes to the administration system, as well as assist in the development of new products, repricing of existing products, corporate projections and reporting of those results.

Educational and experience for the position include:

  • Four year college degree preferably in mathematics, actuarial science or a related field. 
  • Minimum completion of two actuarial examinations with intention to secure SOA designation(s) preferred.
  • Two or more years of life insurance experience in the actuarial department or other technical area.
  • A strong understanding of actuarial concepts preferably life insurance product pricing and reserving.
  • Must be proficient in using actuarial modeling software, MG-ALFA/Integrate strongly preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software applications particularly Excel.
  • Experience with PowerBI and data analysis programs a plus.

  • Must be able to use data available in new and creative ways in order to understand and learn about the characteristics of our customers, consumers, and products.
  • Demonstrated an ability to learn new software applications and to understand how they work.
  • Be able to “deconstruct” calculations to understand the exact nature of how something is done in a software package and evaluate inconsistencies between software packages. 
  • Must have strong documentation skills, and be responsible for adhering to relevant Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Must be able to work independently and also in a team-based environment. Must be willing to push oneself to find answers independently, but also be willing to seek help from peers/experts when stuck.
  • Candidate must be flexible to accommodate changing department and corporate priorities.
  • Must have or develop presentation skills to communicate results of work completed to multiple audiences (actuarial peers, Sales leadership, Company Leadership, etc.)
