The Accounting Specialist role is responsible for the daily transactions associated with our policy administration processing with a wide variety of duties.  As part of the Accounting team, you will be involved in generating disbursement checks, recording electronic payments, inputting journal entries into the General Ledger, researching and providing accounting information to other areas, performing daily ledger account and monthly bank account reconciliations, as well as assisting in the preparation of expense budgets and financial statements.

Requirements for the position include:

  • An Accounting Degree (AA Degree with Accounting work experience a minimum). 

  • Knowledge of business office practices, communications.

  • One to two years hands-on experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in an insurance company, helpful.

  • Incumbent uses general principles of accounting to solve work-related problems on a daily basis including preparing summary reports, financial reports, and processing accounting transactions. 

  • Proficiency in office software including Microsoft Excel and Word.  Experience using General Ledger or Accounts payable software desirable.  Experience in creating SQL Data Queries and reports a plus.

  • Completion of LOMA courses a plus.

  • Exceptional communication skills including oral and written communication via telephone, computer, and in-person.

  • Exceptional attention to detail to calculate, balance and process a moderate to high volume of daily accounting transactions.

  • Work has a repetitive short cycle of operations and utilizes set procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
